Ultralight Rating Certification
Becoming A Sport Pilot: All sport pilot applicants are required to meet the requirements of 61.309, 61.311 and 61.313. Training leading toward a Sport Pilot or Sport Pilot CFI certificate is normally provided by a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI). A USUA BFI may provide much of this training (until 1/31/2008), and previous training received from a BFI can count toward these requirements, in accordance with 61.52. To be able to use training time received from a BFI, you must have a certified copy of your airman records from USUA, and this document must be presented to your examiner, at the time of your practical exam. When do I need a certified copy of my airman records? You must have a certified copy of your airman registration, which must be presented to the FAA (the DPE at the time of the practical exam), if you are a Sport Pilot or Sport Pilot CFI applicant, and you want to be able to use previous training time logged with a BFI (in accordance with 61.52). Larry Clymer, of the FAA Light Sport Aviation Branch, explains what steps you'll need to take, to become a Sport Pilot.
